  1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas mark 4. In a microwave-safe dish, melt the cooking chocolate, stirring frequently until smooth. Set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; stir into the creamed mixture. Divide dough in two. Mix orange zest into one half, and melted chocolate into the other half. Use a bit of each mixture to form a ball about 2.5cm in diameter.
  3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until centre is set. Cool on wire racks.

Dense and earthy with a slightly bitter edge, tahini adds an interesting dimension to baking, especially in recipes which may be cloyingly sweet. The combination of cornflour and icing sugar results in cookies with a lighter, crisper crumb, a nice contrast against the smooth chocolate pieces. You could use choc chips, but I love the way a block of chocolate breaks into uneven shards when chopped with a serrated knife, then, crucially, melts into uneven pools when baked.

Nothing like freshly baked “Chocolate Orange Viennese Biscuits”, this recipe is perfect for afternoon tea or just as a sneaky snack anytime of the day. A completely uncomplicated recipe that will leave your home smelling of sweet success. Go on make a batch and share with your favourite people!


200g butter (at room temp)
50g icing sugar
200g plain flour
¼ tsp baking powder
Rind of 1 large orange

150g dark/milk chocolate (whichever you prefer)
Flaked almonds

1 Terry’s Chocolate orange (157g)
157g double cream

To make the ganache
1. Chop the Terry’s chocolate orange into very fine pieces and place into a medium sized mixing bowl. Place the cream into a small milk saucepan and bring to the boil.
2. Once boiling remove the cream from the heat and pour over the chopped chocolate. Leave to sit for a few moments and then stir gently with a spoon making sure all the chocolate has melted. Place into the fridge until set.

For the biscuits
1. Preheat oven to 170oC (fan) and line a large baking tray with a silicon liner or greaseproof paper. Fit a piping bag with a large, open star nozzle.
2. Place the butter into a large bowl and sieve in the icing sugar into a large mixing bowl and mix until pale and fluffy. Sieve in the flour and baking powder. Add the rind of the orange and mix until everything if full incorporated.
3. Place the dough into the piping bag and pipe out finger shapes 2 ½ inches long or star shapes.
4. Place into the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes or until pale and golden. Lift gently and place onto a cooling rack and leave to cool completely.

While waiting on the biscuits to cool
1. Place the milk/dark chocolate into a small bowl and place over a saucepan of barely simmering water, making sure the bowl isn’t touching the water.
2. Dip both ends of the biscuits into the chocolate and sprinkle with the flaked almonds. Place onto greaseproof paper until set.

To assemble
1. Fit a piping bag with a medium sized plain nozzle.
2. Once the ganache has set, using a hand whisk mix the ganache until it is firm and doubled in size. Place the ganache into the piping bag.
3. Pipe a line of ganache down the centre of the biscuits and then sandwich with another biscuit.

Delicious Moist & Crunchy Cookies full to the brim with chunks of Terry’s Chocolate Orange – heavenly Terry’s Chocolate Orange Cookies!

I have ALWAYS adored Chocolate + Orange flavouring together – especially Terry’s Chocolate Orange – it sounds like an odd combination at first if you haven’t tried it, but once you have, you will never forget it! Literally my favourite chocolate! When I was little, I would eat at least 3 a week (I realise this is bad, but I ate plenty of healthy stuff too!!).

I have always baked big cakes and used chocolate orange, and then cupcakes as well – but when I went to the supermarket with my boyfriend recently and he picked up a bag of Terry’s Chocolate Orange Cookies to buy, I realised I might as well bake them at home myself so I know exactly what is in then, and sometimes it works out much cheaper! – Turn out this is the best decision I have ever made.

Seriously though, I know you all love and adore Terry’s Chocolate Orange – hence the love for the No-Bake Chocolate Orange Cheesecake that I posted a few months ago – my second most popular recipe on my blog! These cookies are the perfect combination of crunchy edges and gooey delicious centre – its a winner all round!

These cookies are always perfect to bake around Christmas time, or when you are just craving something utterly delicious. The perfect part about them is that the oils in the Chocolate Orange that create the flavouring, makes the cookie bake perfectly every single time – I have honestly never had a problem with these! Enjoy!

These are the sort of cookies that you will want to bake over and over, partly because they’re just so damn easy to bake. Honestly, cream the butter and sugars, whack in the egg, whack in the dry ingredients, shove in all the chocolate orange ever, and bake. Most other recipes I’ve seen require chilling first, and these beauties don’t need it.

Not needing chilling means you can get to my favourite cookies ever, quicker. Honestly, these are genuinely my favourite cookie recipe I have, partly because of the Terry’s Chocolate Orange obsession I have going on, but that’s not entirely it. I genuinely just think the actual cookie is insane! It’s such a wonderful mix of chewy, gooey, and delicious. If you bake it for longer, it’ll get crunchy too!

This recipe has been on my blog for quuuuite a while now, and as I write this after updating the images in November 2018, it remains to be my favourite cookie. I know the recipe off by heart and have experimented with it a few times, resulting in recipes such as my Toblerone Cookies, and my M&M Cookies. Fold in the chopped chocolate. Take pieces of the dough and roll into balls. Transfer to baking trays lined with baking paper, making sure the dough has plenty of room to spread out while cooking. Bake in batches for 12-15 minutes until golden. Leave for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely. Spread the filling over half the cookies, then sandwich together with the remaining cookies.

In order to save the situation and not waste my ingredients, I had to add at least 100g flour - possibly more - to the Sainsbury's recipe until it became workable by hand. 110g butter (salted or unsalted), softened

200g dark or light brown sugar – I prefer the flavour of light brown sugar

1 large free-range egg, at room temperature

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch of salt – only add if using unsalted butter

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

200g Terry’s chocolate orange, cut into small chunks or 200g of dark or milk (or a mix) chocolate chips/chunks + 1 teaspoon of orange zest


1. Preheat your to 190°C / 170°C Fan / 375°F / Gas Mark 5. Line 2-3 large baking trays with parchment paper or silicone baking mats and set aside.

2. Cream the butter, sugar and vanilla together until light and fluffy. Add the egg and beat until incorporated.

3. Add the flour, pinch of salt, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and cocoa powder and mix until a dough comes together.

4. Finally, finish by adding the chocolate chunks/chips and mix in combine into the dough.

5. Divide the mixture into balls – I use an ice cream scoop for ease. Spread out evenly on the baking trays. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes until spread out and with a crackled-top.

6. Once cooked, allow the cookies to cool on the trays for 5 minutes – in this time they will firm up and will become more easily transferable. After 5 minutes cooling, I like to press an extra Terry’s chocolate orange segment on the top of each cookie – this is optional. Then transfer the cookies to a wire rack and allow them to cool.

7. Once cooled, enjoy with a glass of ice-cold milk or served with a couple of scoops of your favourite ice cream!
